WHO WE ARE
The Speak Up Now campaign was started by Oregon residents concerned with the current political climate, both in our communities and nationwide. Our concerns specifically regard the vulnerability of our local, state and national elections; as well as the systemic racism that continues to go unaddressed, and drive inequality across the nation.
We are committed to nonviolence in every action we take, promote, and/or support
Â
WHAT WE ARE DOING
We're applying nonviolence to
Â
protect the integrity of US elections
support the call by local organizers to root out systemic racism
WHY WE ARE DOING IT
We launched this campaign because we share a level of frustration that can only be countered through organization and action. Our reasons to act include:
Â
Past and current voter suppression, and election interference efforts
The current administration, through multiple public efforts, setting the stage to challenge the results of the elections in November
The use of unidentified federal officers to attack protesters with impunity
The racism and systemic injustices to which black people are subject in the US, are human rights violations
HOW WE ARE DOING IT
Our campaign goals will be achieved by:
1. Driving action locally to
Increase voter registration, voting accessibility, and voter turnout in Oregon
Develop relationships and receive commitments prior to the elections, that various state powers will honor the results of presidential election
Â
2. Collaborating nationally to
Design and distribute the SUN activist toolkit, which encourages activists and organizers all over the country to protect the integrity of their local and state elections, and contribute to the rooting out of systemic racism in their communities
Coordinate actions regionally and nationally, to demand a peaceful transition of power between November 2020, and January 2021, should it be necessary
Â
3. Using our platform to
Be better allies
Amplify the call of Oregon organizers fighting to address systemic racism in our communities
